The construction of a high dam for hydroelectric power on the river Ladonas created a disruption of the natural river structure and functioning with unknown consequences on aquatic organisms. The Ladonas is one of the longest tributaries of the Alfios river basin in the Peloponnese, southern Greece. There is limited knowledge of the existing natural conditions for the upper part of this triubary system. The basic aim of this project was to study the existing biotic and abiotic conditions in the artificial reservoir as well as downstream conditions. Specific proposals focus on actions for conservation, enrichment of the reservoir’s fish fauna,  and development of recreational fishing in the artificial lake. In addition, the study provides management tools that are needed under the environment policies for the operation of the hydroelectric power unit associated with the Ladonas Dam.
