Short CV

  • BSc in Zoology – Marine Biology, Aberdeen University, Scotland, U.K. (1996-2000)
  • MSc in Biological Oceanography, National and Kapodistrian Univeristy of Athens, Athens, Greece (2002-2005)
  • PhD in Fisheries Biology, Department of Biology, University of Patras, Rio, Greece (2017-present)

Archontia’s main research interest lies on the reproductive biology and ageing methodology of fish, and the investigation of the biological and ecological traits of Chondrichthyan species of the Hellenic Seas.

She has participated on 5 national and international research programs, where she obtained knowledge on fisheries biology, conservation and protection of marine life, as well as rescuing/ rehabilitating marine mammals in the wild. Since 2013, she has been a research assistant in the National Data Fisheries Collection Program (DCF) of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, during which she started her PhD on skates and rays (Batoidae) of the Ionian Sea, in collaboration with the University of Patras. The aim of this study is to record the spatial distribution of batoids in the area, their reproductive strategies and ecological roles. Additionally, she has been focusing in resolving some taxonomic issues in several species, which will contribute to future assessments of their status in the IUCN Red List of threatened species.

She has published in 12 peer-reviewed journals and participated in 22 national and international Conferences; she is currently contributing in the preparation of a Handbook and has been assigned to review papers on 3 International Journals.
