Αναζητούμε συνεργάτες για το City Nature Challenge 2026!
Το Ελληνικό Κέντρο Θαλασσίων Ερευνών (ΕΛΚΕΘΕ) αναλαμβάνει για πρώτη φορά τον συντονισμό της συμμετοχής της Μητροπολιτικής Περιοχής της Αθήνας στο διεθνές City Nature Challenge (CNC) 2026.
Η περιοχή συμμετείχε επιτυχώς και το 2025 με διαφορετικό συντονισμό. Το 2026, το ΕΛΚΕΘΕ συνεχίζει και ενισχύει αυτή την προσπάθεια, με στόχο τη διεύρυνση της συμμετοχής πολιτών και φορέων σε όλη τη Μητροπολιτική Περιοχή της Αθήνας.
Το City Nature Challenge αποτελεί μια παγκόσμια δράση επιστήμης των πολιτών που υλοποιείται μέσω της πλατφόρμας iNaturalist και ενθαρρύνει τους συμμετέχοντες να καταγράψουν τη βιοποικιλότητα της περιοχής τους μέσα σε συγκεκριμένο χρονικό διάστημα. Στόχος δεν είναι ο ανταγωνισμός, αλλά η ενεργοποίηση της τοπικής κοινωνίας και η συμβολή στη συλλογή επιστημονικών δεδομένων για τη φύση.

Πρόσκληση Συνεργασίας
Το ΕΛΚΕΘΕ προσκαλεί οργανισμούς, σχολεία, πανεπιστήμια, ΜΚΟ, δήμους, συλλόγους και άτυπες ομάδες πολιτών να συμμετάσχουν ως οργανωτικοί συνεργάτες της διοργάνωσης για το 2026.
Οι συνεργάτες μπορούν να:
- διαδώσουν τη δράση στα δίκτυά τους
- ενεργοποιήσουν ομάδες πολιτών ή μαθητών
- διοργανώσουν δράσεις παρατήρησης ή αναγνώρισης ειδών
- συμβάλουν στην ταυτοποίηση καταγραφών
Ιδιαίτερα για την εκπαιδευτική κοινότητα, η συμμετοχή μπορεί να αποτελέσει μια ουσιαστική ευκαιρία υλοποίησης δράσεων πεδίου που συνδέονται με το νέο Πρόγραμμα Σπουδών «Δράσεις Ενεργού Πολίτη», ενισχύοντας τη βιωματική μάθηση, τη συνεργασία και την περιβαλλοντική ευαισθητοποίηση.
Το ΕΛΚΕΘΕ θα παρέχει υποστηρικτικό υλικό, καθοδήγηση και προβολή των συνεργαζόμενων φορέων.

We are seeking partners for the City Nature Challenge 2026!
The Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) is coordinating for the first time the participation of the Athens Metropolitan Area in the international City Nature Challenge (CNC) 2026.
The region successfully participated in 2025 under different coordination. In 2026, HCMR continues and strengthens this effort, aiming to broaden the engagement of citizens and institutions across the entire Athens Metropolitan Area.
The City Nature Challenge is a global citizen science initiative implemented through the iNaturalist platform. It encourages participants to document the biodiversity of their area within a specific timeframe. The objective is not competition, but the activation of local communities and the contribution of valuable scientific data on nature.

Call for Partners
HCMR invites organizations, schools, universities, NGOs, municipalities, associations, and informal community groups to participate as organizing partners for the 2026 edition.
Partners may:
- disseminate the initiative through their networks
- mobilize citizen or student groups
- organize observation or species identification activities
- contribute to the identification of recorded observations
For the educational community in particular, participation offers a meaningful opportunity to implement field-based activities that can be linked to the new curriculum framework “Active Citizen Actions,” strengthening experiential learning, collaboration, and environmental awareness.
HCMR will provide supporting materials, guidance, and visibility to collaborating partners.
