During the period 18 – 23 March 2025, members of the scientific team of the project “Kastoria Stations[1]: Water monitoring for risk management due to natural and anthropogenic catastrophes with the use of automatic stations“, visited Kastoria in order to carry out educational activities with schools located around the lake.
16 teachers and 150 students of primary education participated in total. The aim of the activities was to raise the awareness of the school community on issues of water quality and sustainable management of water ecosystems.
During the activities that took place in the areas of Plaz, Mavrochori pier and Swan avenue park, on 19, 20 and 21 March respectively, teachers and students had the opportunity to observe measurements of physicochemical parameters, to get familiar with aquatic ecosystem organisms that are indicators of water quality, such as benthic macroinvertebrates and diatoms, as well as to understand the value of water resources. In addition, during these days the team members carried out inspections for the installation of automatic monitoring stations at appropriate site. (Read more …)
