Maria Koutsodimou is a Technical Scientist (Biologist) in the Institute of Marine Biological Resources and Inland Waters.

Her recent research interests are on the Integrated Water Management and include topics related to the implementation of the European Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EU) in Greek rivers, reference conditions and classification of surface inland waters, evaluation of the ecological status of Greek rivers, improvement of “Greek Nutrient Classification System” index, identification and classification of fresh water benthic macroinvertebrates.

She is a member of the Scientific Personnel of Hellenic Centre for Marine Research since 1997 and has participated in more than 25 national and international research projects on Marine Biology (Biochemistry – Histology), Environmental (Water) Microbiology and Ecological Conservation.

She is an active member of the HCMR educational Unit since 2006 with participation in international projects (REN) and numerous presentations on Environmental Education topics to students of all levels and adults.
