Maria-Myrto Pyrounaki is a fisheries biologist. Her main research interests include fisheries acoustics and species distribution modelling. She has attended special training courses in hydroacoustics, stock assessment, ecological data analysis using R and hydroacoustic data analysis using R.

Since 2010, she holds a position as a research assistant at the Institute of Marine Biological Resources and Inland Waters of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR). She has participated in over than 10 European and National research projects (e.g. Med&BS RDBFIS II, National Fisheries Data Collection Project, PROTOMEDEA, MINOUW, SEAMAN, MEDISEH, AcousMed) related to climate change and habitat suitability modelling, geographic information systems, and fisheries acoustics. In the context of these projects, she has gained long-term experience working in the field onboard research vessels, and also on the modelling and analysis of scientific data.

She has contributed 10 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 1 book chapter, and more than 30 other publications (technical reports, working group reports, conference proceedings).
