Ms Maria Pantazi is a Statistician – Oceanographer (MSc) and holds a permanent appointment as a Research Associate at the Institute of Marine Biological Resources and Inland Waters (IMBRIW) of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) since 2023.
Upon joining the HCMR in 2007, her scientific work has focused on the integrated assessment of the state and quality of marine ecosystems, the support of sustainable fisheries management and the evaluation of the marine ecosystems’ vulnerability, through her expertise in statistical, spatiotemporal & bioeconomic modelling, risk assessment techniques and cumulative impact assessments. She has also been involved in marine data management, supporting the quality, interoperability, and policy-relevance of marine, environmental and fisheries datasets. Her work is closely linked to European environmental policy, particularly in support of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and the Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP), including national and EU reporting obligations.
She has participated in >20 research projects, and has contributed in >20 publications in peer-reviewed journals as well as in >30 other publications (i.e. conference proceedings, book chapters, special publications, newspaper and magazine articles), with over 820 citations (Google Scholar citation metrics: h-index: 18, i10-index: 21). She is a member of the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece as well as of the Hellenic Oceanographers’ Association.
