Monitoring and recording the status (quality, quantity, pressures, use) of the country’s waters” (02.5032401/001-006)
The project “Monitoring and recording the status (quality, quantity, pressures, use) of the country’s waters” (02.5032401/001-006) forms the basis for implementing the Water Framework Directive (WFD 2000/60 EC) for the country’s rivers, transitional, and coastal waters, as it conducts monitoring and leads to the objective and comprehensive assessment of the ecological status of all surface waters.
The tasks to be performed within the framework of the project include:
(a) sampling for biological (benthic macroinvertebrates, fish, aquatic macrophytes, phytobenthos for all surface waters and phytoplankton for transitional and coastal waters), physico-chemical, and hydromorphological parameters for the country’s rivers, transitional, and coastal waters, as well as for chemical parameters (Priority Substances and Specific Pollutants) for coastal and transitional waters,
(b) analysis of physico-chemical and biological parameters for all waters and heavy metals for coastal and transitional waters, and
(c) data processing concerning all the aforementioned quality elements with the aim of classifying the ecological status of the waters based on available and tested indicators for Greece. The Act is funded by the European Union – Cohesion Fund and National resources (MIS (OPS): 6005097, EINARITHMO: 2024SE37570005).
