Short CV

  • B.Sc. in Marine Sciences, University of the Aegean (2014)
  • M.Sc. in Oceanography and Marine Environment Management, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2017)

Nikolaos Fotiadis studied in the Marine Sciences Department of the University of the Aegean, he is also a graduate of the Master course of “Oceanography and Marine Environment Management” of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In his undergraduate thesis, he focused on the biology of the lesser flying squid, Todaropsis eblanae, in the Ionian sea via research of reproduction and examination of the microstructure of statoliths, focusing on the age (daily rings) and their development. In his MSc, he studied the spatial and temporal distribution of fish plankton in the area of Maliakos Gulf, dealt with species identification of fish larvae and eggs through morphological traits. Since 2019 he is working on the Monitoring and recording of the situation of the marine sub-regions of Greece / Upgrading and operational updating of the monitoring network – Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and in the Gyaros MPA fisheries knowledge survey: assessing a pristine Mediterranean biodiversity hotspot (GYAROS MPA). He participates in field surveys with small-scale fisheries from 2019 in the frame of the GYAROS MPA program and with bottom trawl fisheries, from 2014, in the frame of the MEDITS action (International Bottom Trawl Survey in the Mediterranean). He is also a chair invited member in the working group of Cephalopods Fisheries and Life History Working Group (WGCEPH) and the working group on bycatch of protected species (WGBYC) of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES/ CIEM).
