A Collaboration of HCMR & University of Plymouth
The second training course in Evrotas, held in April 2024, marks the successful collaboration between the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) and the University of Plymouth. Stemming from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between these two institutions, the training course was tailored for undergraduate students of Environmental Science, providing them with invaluable hands-on experience in the field.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in comprehensive training sessions focusing on various aspects of environmental research. From studying fish distributions affected by flow intermittency to analyzing water quality parameters such as nutrients, and exploring the dynamics of riparian vegetation, students were equipped with the necessary skills to conduct independent field research.
A total of 37 undergraduate students and three lecturers (Dr. C. Gutmann Roberts, Dr. A. Turner and Dr. T. Murphy) from the University of Plymouth participated in the course. Additionally, the collaborative effort involved the contribution of one research associate (Dr. L. Vardakas) and one field technician (P. Kouraklis) from HCMR, further enriching the learning experience and fostering cross-institutional cooperation.
