On April 18, the Institute of Marine Biological Resources and Inland Waters and the Educational Unit of Hellenic Centre for Marine Research participated in the 10th Athens Science Festival, which took place in Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens.

The festival entitled “Stories of Change” was organized by the educational organization SciCo, the British Council and the Technopolis, in collaboration with academic, research and educational organizations, and the support of COSMOTE as major sponsor.

Under the title “Surface Water Stories”, the visitors of HCMR had the opportunity to participate to the following actions:

Get familiar with the operation of the first state-of-the-art network of automatic water monitoring stations, that records data on a real-time basis regarding water quantity (water level and discharge) and quality (pH, temperature, conductivity and dissolved oxygen), and provides early warnings in cases of flood/drought and water pollution incidents.

Get the chance to actually see modern unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV’S) and understand their operation and use in monitoring water bodies.

Learn about “Water Matters”, an information and awareness campaign on sustainability and water conservation issues on Greek islands and adopt some useful good water practices on daily basis that it proposes.
