The project is a part of the Environmental Impact Assessment study for the construction of the Transadriatic Pipeline (TAP) and concerns the assessment of the ecological quality of water and sediment in all major water bodies along the route of TAP. For this purpose, water sampling and analysis will be conducted in selected sites for a series of parameters including nutrients, heavy metals, hydrocarbon substances, etc.
Moreoever, fish and macroinvertebrate sampling will be conducted, while the hydromorphologic pressures and the existence of protected species will be also recorded. The correlation between the measured pollution levels and the human activities in the sampling sites’ catchments will be identified and the relevant impacts on the aquatic ecosystems will be quantified.
