Environmental monitoring actions in water bodies and hiking trails in mountainous Arcadia with the use of innovative technologies
The project aims to apply innovative technologies in the monitoring of surface waters and hiking trails in the area of Mt Menalon in the mountainous area of Arcadia, in the Peloponnese. Its main action is the installation of automated quality and quantity monitoring stations in key points of the hydrological network, e.g. the river Lousios, as well as automated hikers counting sensors in the routes that comprise Menalon Trail, the first internationally certified hiking network in Greece.
The data will be available through the project’s website, which is already operational through the following link: menalon.hcmr.gr
The project is being implemented by Menalon Social Enterprise, the Section of Inland Waters of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research and the Union for Social and Solidarity Economy of the Peloponese “Pelopas”. It is funded by the Green Fund through the financial program “Natural Environment and Innovative Actions”, Priority Axis 3, “Innovative actions with citizens”, with a total budget of 50.000€.
